Overview
CAAMA is seeking to engage a Media Manager/Archivist to oversee the preservation of The CAAMA Collection and manage its transformation from analogue recordings to digital.
They will facilitate the appropriate access to that content and obtain community consent to support the production new radio and digital content.
The Media Manager/Archivist will undertake a wide range of tasks to further build the collection, as well as enhance its discoverability and access.
They will be responsible for the storage, preservation, organisation, description, and access of the audio, video and document assets collected and created by CAAMA.
This may also involve managing collection items with complex cultural access and use conditions and potential cultural sensitivities or restrictions.
Australian work rights are required for this position.
Essential functions
Manage the physical archive using current best practices for preservation and storage.
Conduct preservation of materials such as the cleaning and repair of damaged audio and visual material.
Manage descriptive, technical, administrative and preservation metadata for both accessibility and long-term preservation of digital assets and related metadata.
Lead and coordinate efforts with the identified external digitisation partner, to preserve analogue audio and video assets converting them to digital formats.
Access, arrange, describe, and otherwise process manuscripts, photographs, audio-visual assets, oral histories, electronic records, and other materials in accordance with archival standards.
Assist in the development of strategies for the preservation of digital items.
Ideal candidates will possess
Robust organisational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of data.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders and convey complex information clearly.
Technical expertise and knowledge of media formats, digital preservation techniques, and archival management systems.
Experience working with any archival management system to support collection organisation and access.
A passion for history and media, understanding the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
An understanding of, Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights, Indigenous cultural protocols and related cultural safety issues.
Working knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and related cultural safety requirements.
Education and experience
Experience in an archive or media library working with video, film and sound formats.
Demonstrated experience working with all media formats including audio, video and film materials.
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an archive or media library is required.
Tertiary qualifications in Indigenous studies, information studies, cultural heritage, or a related field are highly desirable.
Equivalent relevant skills and experience will be recognised.
