The purpose of the role is to support the Group Chief Underwriting Office in the effective management of emerging insurance risks and opportunities. This role blends strategic thinking with practical risk management, helping IAG better identify, prepare and respond to emerging trends. Some recent examples include analysis of lithium battery fire risks, climate litigation and geopolitical risk.
This is a permanent, full-time position open to candidates based anywhere in Australia What You'll Do Research & Scanning
* Identify emerging insurance risks and opportunities by regularly scanning political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal trends
* Maintain a watchlist of emerging risks IAG is monitoring or managing, and a supporting fact base that contributes to understanding
* Apply judgement to prioritise trends that have the highest relevance, likelihood and potential impact to IAG
Analysis & Problem Solving
* Work with teams across IAG to gather information and understand their views on emerging insurance risks and opportunities
* Set out practical options to respond to emerging insurance risks, including through portfolio, product, underwriting, pricing and claims decisions
* Lead detailed analysis on selected priority topics, producing research papers that concisely capture findings and recommendations.
Governance & Team Support
* Coordinate a working group with representatives from across IAG to collaborate on emerging insurance risks and opportunities
* Support concise reporting to senior leadership on emerging risks, capturing what is changing, what it means for IAG and how to respond
* Support wider team work on Responsible Underwriting, informing how IAG considers emerging ESG risks and opportunities in underwriting
What You'll Bring
* Research and scanning – can independently scan diverse sources of information and evaluate its relevance and meaning
* Judgement – can weigh ambiguous evidence and make sensible calls on how to make progress without over-analysis
* Structured thinking & problem solving – can break unfamiliar or complex issues into parts and determine what analysis is needed to build understanding
* Work planning – can independently plan, organise and drive a program of work across both defined tasks and more open-ended problems
* Risk-based thinking – can structure thinking using simple risk frameworks such as likelihood, impact and controls to support assessment
* Clear communication – can express complex ideas clearly and succinctly in writing, presentations and discussion
* Collaboration – can work constructively with others, iterate ideas openly, and support broader team work where priorities require
* Insurance familiarity – can apply a working understanding of general insurance to identify the impact of trends on insurance risk and the levers available to respond
* Five years or more experience demonstrating development of the skills and capabilities described above
* Relevant tertiary qualification/s
