Our finance function is no exception — we run on Clio for practice management, Xero for accounting, Stripe and Dext for payments and expenses, alongside supporting integrations that streamline reconciliation, billing, reporting, and compliance.

You'll be joining a collaborative team with strong leadership support, and you'll have the opportunity to shape and refine how our systems and processes evolve. Ideally Sydney-based, but we're open to considering a fully remote role for the right candidate.

About the Role

We are seeking a Finance Manager with 3+ years' experience to oversee and optimise the firm's finance function.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working across modern cloud-based systems, ensuring accurate billing and reporting, and supporting the business with insight into financial performance.

You'll report directly to the Principal Director, with scope to develop processes, improve automation, and take ownership of financial operations as the firm continues to grow.

The role is fast-paced and requires an A-team player to join a great team of collaborative individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

* Managing daily, weekly, and monthly invoicing and expenses through Clio and Xero.
* Managing Xero bookkeeping, including coding, reconciliation of accounts, and payables (via Dext).
* Reviewing and preparing financial reports, including revenue analysis, profit & loss statements, and balance sheets.
* Managing individual team member time recording, billing and costs on matters as they proceed.
* Conducting weekly and end-of-month billing reviews and providing financial insights to management.
* Monitoring and managing aged receivables (debtors management), following up to ensure timely collections with the assistance of other team members and debt recovery agencies.
* Debtor monitoring using CreditorWatch.

Compliance & Regulatory

* Overseeing statutory obligations including BAS/IAS reporting, tax returns, payroll tax, and superannuation compliance.
* Ensuring payroll is processed timely (monthly), accurately and in compliance with employment and tax regulations.
* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of financial compliance requirements and ensure company adherence to policies and regulations.

Client & Cashflow Management

* Reconciling client payments in Clio, Xero, and processing payment via Stripe.
* Arranging, documenting, and processing client payment plans.
* Managing supplier and staff payments to maintain strong relationships and healthy cashflow.

Leadership & Strategic Support

* Supporting the legal team with workflow management, deliverables, and time-tracking for accurate, timely and efficient billing.
* Assisting with salary reviews and commission calculations/processing, forecasting of same.
* Providing financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making by the management team.
* Upholding and enforcing company policies related to financial systems, risk management, and accountability.

Software & Systems

* Regular use of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, etc.), Clio, Xero, Stripe, and Dext to manage financial workflows.
* Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting.

About You

1. Proven experience as a Finance Manager, Accountant, or similar role.
2. Strong knowledge of Xero, cloud-based financial systems, and reporting tools.
3. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a professional services or law firm environment (preferred).
4. Excellent analytical skills with a detail-oriented and proactive approach.
5. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
