The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer (Special Counsel or Senior Associate level) to join our growing Property Development team. You will work closely with our Principals and senior lawyers across the full spectrum of property development matters, including:

- Site acquisitions and disposals, due diligence and contract negotiation.
- Development agreements, joint ventures, project delivery deeds.
- Funding and structuring arrangements (including senior debt, mezzanine and second mortgage funding).
- Subdivisions and Owners Corporation setup and governance.
- Leasing acting for both landlords and tenants in retail, commercial and industrial leases, agreements for lease, incentive arrangements, and lease portfolio management
- Advising and negotiating with local councils on planning permits, development contributions, Section 173 Agreements, easements, public open space contributions, and infrastructure delivery obligations.
- Projects with government or community housing partnerships.
- Multi parcel developments including greenfield sites, mixed use projects, high density lots.
- Ancillary matters such as infrastructure delivery, easements, restrictive covenants, embedded networks (electricity, gas, solar), utility and service provider agreements
- Advising on stamp duty, foreign investment/FIRB issues, land tax, adverse possession, plan variations and multi owner sales.
- This is a genuine opportunity to step into a senior role with client contact, leadership responsibilities, and a clear pathway to partnership for the right person.

About You

You will bring:

- At least 7 years’ post admission experience in property development, commercial property or major projects (private practice or in house).
- A strong track record in major property/development work across the project lifecycle, including structuring and documentation of JV/partnerships, master contracts, multi lot subdivision, greenfield/estate development, and embedded service networks.
- Competence drafting and negotiating high level documents (development agreements, joint ventures, master sale contracts, utility service agreements, owners corp rules and leases).
- Excellent commercial judgment, high level stakeholder management (developers, financiers, government agencies, strata/owners corporations) and ability to handle complex multi party transactions.
- Confidence advising clients directly and supervising junior team members.
- A collaborative, client focused mindset, proactive in business development and team culture.
