We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Design Assistant to join our Melbourne studio. This role is hands-on and fast-paced, providing end-to-end support to the Head of Design across the full design cycle. You will play a key role in researching trends, developing CADs and tech packs, managing sample development, and ensuring the design vision is accurately delivered into production.
Key Responsibilities
- Research seasonal fabrics, prints, trims, and trends in line with Alpha60’s design direction.
- Source fabrics and trims to meet seasonal and creative intent.
- Develop detailed CADs and comprehensive tech packs for handover to the garment technician.
- Support fittings, record feedback, and communicate amendments clearly.
- Work closely with factories to ensure accurate and timely sample development.
- Assist in sourcing new suppliers for specialty categories when required.
- Monitor and adhere to the Critical Path throughout the development cycle.
- Consolidate all sampling-to-production changes for clear production handover.
- Partner with production to ensure design intent is delivered to the highest standard.
- Maintain fabric libraries, trims, and design archives.
- Provide general admin and studio support to the Head of Design.
- Assist with special projects or collaborations where required.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within fashion design or product development.
- Solid knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and design/production processes.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent technical drawing and CAD skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Clear and confident communication skills with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Highly organised, proactive, and adaptable in a dynamic studio environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Garment Technology, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to independently create CAD drawings and tech packs.
- Experience supporting senior design leaders preferred.
