The Opportunity
Working closely with the Coordinator, Safer Communities, the Safer Communities Adviser is the central point of enquiry for student behaviours of concern. The role provides initial responses to student disclosures and referrals, and guidance to staff who are supporting students or responding to behaviours of concern. The Adviser is responsible for identifying, assessing and managing risk, and coordinating timely and appropriate support, ensuring students receive the right support at the right time. Key responsibilities include gathering relevant information, conducting risk assessments, implementing risk management strategies including safety and support measures, referring matters to the Behaviour Assessment and Management (BAM) team where required, and documenting and actioning recommendations.
The position works closely with academic and professional staff, as well as relevant external stakeholders, to ensure effective information sharing, best practice responses and coordinated case management. This work contributes to maintaining a safe, respectful and supportive environment for UniSC students and the broader community.
The Safer Communities Advisor responds to students presenting with behaviours of concern and supports students who may have observed or experienced behaviours that could cause fear, offence or trauma, including domestic and family violence, gender-based violence, sexual violence, bullying, harassment, discrimination, vexatious or persistent/unreasonable complaining, and stalking.
You will
* provide compassionate, trauma-informed responses to reports of gender-based violence, domestic and family violence, sexual harm and concerning behaviour, meeting our obligations with care and integrity;
* apply best-practice threat assessment and management to respond effectively to behavioural risks that may cause fear, offence or harm.

You will possess
* A relevant university degree and extensive experience in clinical or forensic psychology, social work, criminology, or a related field, with eligibility for professional registration where required.
* Proven ability to provide trauma-informed support to students with care, sensitivity, and professionalism.
* Strong expertise in case management and risk assessment, including managing complex cases while balancing competing priorities.
* Experience working with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, with an understanding of intersectionality and the needs of marginalised or vulnerable cohorts.
* Awareness of issues relating to gender-based violence in tertiary settings, and experience delivering training to respond to disclosures of sexual harm and family or domestic violence.
* Highly developed written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience in data collection, report writing, analysis, and maintaining comprehensive, accurate case records.
* Ability to navigate complex organisational policies and procedures while operating effectively within organisational structures.
* Capacity to work collaboratively, self-manage workload, set priorities, and organise unpredictable tasks efficiently.
* Well-developed self-care practices, including maintaining professional boundaries and seeking guidance when needed.
* Previous experience in higher education is desirable.
