QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by managing and coordinating delivery of mechanical maintenance and construction activities. This role has a solid focus on safety and the delivery of services to a high standard of workmanship, while maximising project profitability and ensure client satisfaction.
Duties and skills involved:
- Provide expert mechanical engineering advice, services and consultancy to mechanical workers, external clients and authorities.
- Ensure legislation, industry codes of practice, Australian Standards and safety protocols are up to date and communicated effectively.
- Supervise the delivery of mechanical construction, maintenance and upgrade works all while managing budgets, developing teams and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Champion safety by driving WHS audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Produce high quality tender and quotation documents, prepare accurate and timely estimates, quotations and project trade packages.
- Perform the role of Superintendents Representative (SR) projects for key projects, ensuring smooth delivery and success, as required.
- Provide technical support and supervision for small air-conditioning and refrigeration installations and oversee mechanical repairs, upgrades and additions.
- Mentor and guide mechanical apprentices, helping them grow into the next generation of skilled tradespersons.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and equitable work environment, while ensuring compliance with current human resource and workplace health and safety standards.
- Keep refrigerant handling equipment and usage records audit-ready for ARCTICK compliance.
- Lead by example, proactively managing team performance and fostering a culture of excellence.
Preferred skills and experience/Additional requirements
- Current Queensland restricted (refrigeration trade) Electrical Work Licence
- Refrigeration/air-conditioning trade qualification Cert 3
- Current Workplace Health & Safety General Safety Induction Card
- Current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and low voltage rescue certificate
- Current, valid Queensland "C" class driver's licence or equivalent
