We're on the lookout for a passionate First Nations solicitor to join our award-winning, multidisciplinary team at the Women's Legal Centre ACT.

Our Mulleun Mura Program
Our Mulleun Mura Program provides specialist legal assistance in family law, family violence, and early intervention care and protection matters to First Nations women, trans and non-binary people. The role is grounded in culturally safe, trauma-informed practice, placing culture at the centre of decision-making and supporting clients to achieve outcomes that reflect their voices and lived experiences.
This is a role for practitioners who know that meaningful outcomes are grounded in trust, culture, and walking alongside clients.
This is an identified role as we consider that being First Nations is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 42 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT).
This position is also identified for a female applicant under section 34 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT), as it involves providing culturally appropriate support to First Nations women.
What you will do
* Provide high quality legal advice and casework to First Nations clients, including representation in ACT and Commonwealth courts, in family law and family violence matters
* Collaborate with WLC's social workers and case workers to meet client needs and ensure services are integrated
* Learn and apply the principles of trauma-informed legal practice in service delivery
About you
* Identify as a woman, trans or non-binary person
* Satisfy Aboriginality criteria as defined by descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such
* Are reliable, organised and detail oriented
* Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
* Can prioritise self-care for mental health and wellbeing
* Have knowledge of Australia's legal systems and processes
* Tech savviness

What we will offer you
Our offer will also include salary packaging of everyday living expenses as well as meals and entertainment (which may add approx. $5.5K per annum to your take-home pay), generous leave provisions, flexible working hours and extended Christmas shutdown.
