Statutory Planner (Fire Recovery)

About the Opportunity

Mitchell Shire Council and some neighbouring councils have been affected by the January 2026 fires and consequently there have been many properties affected. Prioritising the rebuilding and re-establishment of affected areas is important for affected residents and Council. Accordingly, we have an opportunity for a statutory planner whose priority work is to support the recovery and rebuilding of fire affected properties.

The role will involve working closely with applicants seeking to rebuild and redeveloped sites, providing specialist advice and support as required and prioritising assessment and decision making of applications. The roles sits within the greater statutory planning team and the role will also process other statutory planning applications, when not processing fire affected applications as a priority.

This role is a temporary, full-time opportunity until 30 December 2027 with a Monthly ADO. The salary for this role commences at $108.1K - $117.2K (Band 6) inclusive of superannuation, dependent on experience.

About You

You are a person who thrives working closely with individuals, a great communicator with empathy to support applicants dealing with a difficult situation. You are fast thinking, have the ability to quicky assimilate information and can provide quick, clear and decisive ways forward for applicants. An eye for detail is important to ensure that application matters are addressed early and avoid multiple back and forth communication.

You are a team player and able to communicate with various specialist teams to get the support and information required to get quick results for permit applicants.
