Our menu includes traditional and contemporary Latin dishes such as arepas, tacos, and South American–inspired breakfast and lunch plates, all prepared with fresh ingredients and a strong focus on flavour, consistency, and presentation. We are looking for a passionate Cook with knowledge of South American cuisine to join our team.
About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Cook who will be responsible for preparing and executing Latin-inspired dishes while maintaining high kitchen standards.
In this role, you will:
* Prepare and cook South American and Latin-inspired dishes, including arepas, tacos, fillings, salsas, and traditional accompaniments.
* Execute café-style breakfast and brunch items, combining Latin flavours with modern presentation.
* Prepare house-made components such as marinades, sauces, stews, and toppings typical of South American cuisine.
* Ensure consistent plating and presentation that reflects Espresso Bonsai's modern café identity.
* Manage service during busy periods, maintaining efficiency without compromising quality.
* Assist in developing new menu items and seasonal specials inspired by Latin cuisine.
* Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients, including corn flour, meats, herbs, spices, and produce.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen in accordance with food safety standards.
* Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction.
* Support and guide junior kitchen staff when required.
Skills and Experience required
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* Minimum 2 years' experience as a Cook in a café or restaurant environment.
* Practical knowledge of South American / Latin cuisine (experience with arepas, tacos, empanadas, salsas, or similar dishes is highly valued).
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent professional experience.
* Strong understanding of breakfast and lunch service.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced café setting.
* Passion for Latin flavours and attention to detail in preparation and presentation.
* Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a positive attitude.
* Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
