Primary objective
Lead the School Operations Corporate team in the provision of strategic and operational advice and policy implementation on matters
relating to school operations.
Context statement
School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools, tailored to their needs and focused on supporting
their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies and
department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. The position works within a small collaborative team based in Darwin that
supports all regions and contributes to the priorities and strategic direction of the Department of Education across the NT.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Strategically lead and manage human, financial and information resources in the School Operations team to meet organisational
objectives.
2. Provide high-level strategic advice on policy development, and operational support on issues impacting on education outcomes for
students throughout the NT.
3. Oversee Ministerial and other correspondence and communications to ensure that quality is maintained.
4. Lead complex project work, develop responses to emergent issues, broker corporate and other support and identify areas of
opportunity for the division to improve its organisational performance and meet business plan priorities.
5. Develop constructive and collaborative partnerships with multiple government and non-government stakeholders to support the
management of complex educational and wider government issues.
6. Other duties as delegated by line management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed management and leadership skills including the proven ability to lead and influence others and motivate internal and
external stakeholders to work effectively and achieve outcomes in a climate of significant change and complexity.
2. High-level experience at senior management level in project management and policy development, including the ability to identify and
be responsive to emerging trends and needs.
3. Evidence of outstanding written and oral communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate
with influence across diverse groups, establish productive networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders and interact
effectively with people from diverse cultures within regional and remote contexts.
1. Highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, including the demonstrated ability to interpret the political environment
and lead change and multifaceted projects that develop innovative solutions to drive system improvement.
1. High level, contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures, and ability to be responsive to emerging
government needs, including educational priorities that improve student outcomes.
Desirable
1. Post graduate qualifications in a field relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
2. A high-level understanding of NT education system strategic priorities and school operations and needs.
