As a Principal Legal Officer in Prosecution Services Support Unit (PSSU), you will play a critical role in providing expert legal guidance and strategic advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS). You will ensure that legal and prosecutorial decision making with respect to sexual violence prosecutions is transparent and sound by implementing the Service's Victims' Right to Review Policy. You will ensure that sexual violence prosecutions are conducted with the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and compliance with organisational policies while ensuring compliance with the Charter of Victims' Rights.
Your Key Accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
* Assist in managing the conduct of a professional legal practice by supporting the Director in providing legal expertise in the implementation of the QPS's Victim's Right to Review policy to ensure prosecutorial decisions are legally sound, procedurally fair and consistent with organisational policies and victim's rights.
* Undertake the complex legal review of matters for the Queensland Police Service particularly in respect of sexual violence offences.
* Provide high level strategic advice to manage legal risk to the organisation including on complex and/or sensitive matters affecting, or likely to affect, the State, the Queensland Police Service and its employees.
* Develop and maintain effective and collaborative internal and external relationships and strategic partnerships and represent the organisation at external forums and settings.
* Foster a culture of innovation including by reviewing existing processes and practices and implementing strategies to improve service delivery.
* Maintain and comply with the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.
Role Requirements
Mandatory
* Possession of a degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications.
Qualification
* Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and enrolment, or eligibility for enrolment to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia.
