This position will be responsible for oversight and delivery of the program. This will include coordinating, supervising and managing a team of Indigenous Youth Program officers.
The Yuendumu Wanta Youth Program is funded by the Granite Mine Affected Area Aboriginal Corporation (GMAAAC), through its agent Central Land Council (CLC), to support the young people and families in the community of Yuendumu, Northern Territory. Yuendumu is located 290 km northwest of Alice Springs along the Tanami Highway.
This position will have full oversight of the program and its delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
* Supervise and provide leadership to a team of Indigenous youth officers, offering guidance, training, and mentorship to support effective program delivery.
* Create a positive and inclusive team environment that empowers and motivates staff.
Resource Management:
* Manage program budgets, procure necessary supplies, and ensure the proper use and maintenance of program equipment and materials.
* Monitor expenses and funding to ensure efficient resource allocation.
Program Coordination:
* Coordinate all aspects of the youth program, including planning, scheduling, and evaluation, to ensure a safe and engaging environment for participants.
* Collaborate with the team to design and develop engaging youth programs, activities, and events that align with the organisation's mission.
Youth Empowerment:
* Implement strategies to empower young individuals, fostering self-confidence, leadership skills, and personal development.
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to program participants, assisting them in setting and achieving their personal and educational goals.
Community Engagement:
* Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, families, and local organisations to promote program participation and garner community support for youth initiatives.
* Act as a liaison between the organisation and the community, advocating for the needs and interests of Indigenous youth.
Reporting:
* Compile and submit annual and bi-annual reports to CLC.
* Provide program updates to the Regional Manager and CEO.
Key selection criteria for the position
* Knowledge, skills, and experience working in community development.
* Demonstrated high level ability to plan and deliver community development programs.
* Excellent communication and people skills (both verbal and written).
* A current full driver’s license (plus 4WD experience is desirable).
* Willingness to undergo national police check and Working With Children application (if an Ochre Card is not already held).
Desirable Attributes
* Degree or recognised qualification is an advantage.
* Experience working and living in remote Indigenous communities is desirable but not essential.
