Sterilising technician - targeted

Offer description

Hunter New England Local Health District is hiring a Sterilisation Technician Grade 2. The position is temporary full‐time or temporary part‐time until February 2027 and requires 38 hours per week. It is located at John Hunter Hospital.

The role is open to all individuals but is particularly targeted to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people under section 21 of the Anti‐Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration to promote equal or improved access. Applicants must demonstrate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status and address the selection criteria.

Responsibilities

* Reprocess medical and surgical instruments in line with statutory requirements and departmental policies.
* Support orthopaedics, trauma and neurosurgery specialties.
* Use instrument tracking systems to ensure accuracy and traceability.
* Provide reprocessing services to internal departments and external customers.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support theatre and ward workflows.

Qualifications

* Certification II or III in sterilisation technology or equivalent qualification and relevant experience in a healthcare facility.
* Strong understanding of sterilising processes and instrument tracking systems.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
* Additional skills and service‐specific knowledge will be supported through training and on‐the‐job learning.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment you must be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
