About the Role
An exciting opportunity has been created for a senior and commercially astute Head of Estimating to join a large, well-established residential construction group with a significant development pipeline.
This is a critical leadership role responsible for setting the strategic direction of the estimating function across sales, production and cost planning. Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, you will lead a multi-disciplinary estimating team and play a key role in driving margin discipline, operational efficiency, and scalable growth.
This position will suit an experienced estimating leader who enjoys operating at both strategic and hands-on levels, influencing executive decision-making while building a high-performing, future-ready function.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership across sales estimating, production estimating, cost planning, and systems
* Define and execute a best-practice estimating framework aligned with commercial and operational objectives
* Lead, mentor and develop estimating leaders and teams, building capability and succession
* Establish governance frameworks to protect margin and manage cost risk across the project lifecycle
* Drive consistency in estimating methodology, assumptions, data, and outputs
* Partner with senior stakeholders across construction, procurement, finance, design and sales
* Oversee workload planning, resourcing, and utilisation including offshore and external partners
* Implement performance reporting, KPIs, dashboards and continuous improvement initiatives
* Act as a trusted adviser to executive leadership on estimating, cost risk and commercial performance
About You
* Extensive senior leadership experience in estimating, cost planning or a related discipline in residential construction.
* Proven ability to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in a complex construction environment
* Strong commercial acumen with a track record of margin management and cost governance
* Experience designing and embedding operating models, systems and process frameworks
* Confident communicator with the ability to engage at executive and board level
* Highly analytical, resilient, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
* Experience working with offshore or external delivery models highly regarded
Qualifications (preferred):
* Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Commerce or similar
* Postgraduate qualifications (MBA, Construction Economics, Project Management) advantageous
* AIQS / RICS or equivalent professional membership desirable
