Your new role
Mackellar are the principal mining contractor for the Carmichael Mine, and we are responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and productive operations at this site. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee production activities across multiple crews, ensuring the achievement of safety, tonnage, and quality targets in line with operational commitments.
We're seeking an experienced Coal Mining Superintendent to drive daily coaling activities, lead production crews, and ensure safe, efficient delivery of coal to the ROM. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, builds strong relationships, and is passionate about safety, quality and continuous improvement.
* Lead, mentor and support coal mining crews and supervisors.
* Plan, monitor and control daily coaling activities to meet production, safety and contractual targets.
* Ensure stockpiling, ROM management and coal quality processes are followed.
* Liaise with Maintenance to optimise fleet availability.
* Manage labour levels and shift crew performance.
* Provide daily performance updates and operational insights.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives across production.
* Ensure compliance with site procedures, safety systems and environmental requirements.
* Conduct inspections, audits, pre-starts and safety observations.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders including Technical Services, Wash Plant, Client reps and SSE.
What you'll need to succeed
* Previous experience in a Superintendent role within open cut mining.
* Strong leadership capability with experience managing production crews.
* G1, G8, G9 (S1–S3) and G2 qualifications.
* Current CBM and Standard 11 or willingness to obtain.
* Solid understanding of heavy earthmoving equipment and mining production processes.
* High-level communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Strong WHS focus, attention to detail and commitment to zero harm.
* Positive attitude, self-motivation and team-oriented mindset.
