Vestas New Zealand is looking to grow the Power Plant Solution department are looking to welcome their next Engineers, lead engineers, and Specialists within their team. The team oversees all grid aspects during the sales/construction/Service phase of the projects in APAC.
You will be Working with a team of engineering professionals across the region working closely with other cross-functional teams delivering comprehensive and compliant grid solutions. The role will encompass technical and stakeholder management from presales all the way to service on multiple projects
Responsibilities:
Engineer, Lead Engineer
• Support power system studies to define the wind farm generator performance standards and to develop the wind farm control system functional design specification and reactive plant requirements. Coordinate activities with the grid modeling department;
• Review of Balance of Plant (BoP) design, drawing, and document submissions from subcontractors against industry best practice, law, international and local standards, in addition to Vestas' contractual and interfacing requirements from the perspective of grid connection compliance;
• Ensure grid connection deliverables required to be submitted by Vestas are provided in a timely, safe, and high-quality manner; • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure grid connection issues are resolved on time;
• Undertake and support the procurement, design, installation, commissioning, and testing of wind farm grid monitoring equipment, and control systems;
• Undertake generator performance standards compliance testing, model validation (R2) testing, and generator registration with AEMO, including liaising with site-based personnel;
• Engage and maintain power systems engineering consultancies when required;
• Research and prepare formal responses to inquiries regarding wind farm technical performance. Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers;
• Attend and provide input to various safety, design, technical, and risk meetings, workshops, and reviews;
• Assess Variations, Requests for Information (RFIs) and payment claims
• Review tender specifications.
Competencies:
• Have a significant background in undertaking grid connection studies using PSCAD, PSSE, and Powerfactory and be able to interpret, comprehend, and communicate the simulation study performance and apply this to demonstrate compliance with the relevant performance standards and as applicable to the real-world performance.
• Must have extensive experience with PSCAD, PSSe, and Powerfactory.
• Experience in the electricity generation sector.
Specialist:
•Develop standardized grid solution & design within Vestas plant /product specifications and contractual obligations.
•Ensure technical quality during the implementation of the proposed grid solutions & design through a review of key documents and procedures.
•Develop and maintain technical-quality processes and methodologies including review procedures and checklists.
•Development of technical expertise and competence within the regional grid team by conducting formal and informal training and also through a documented technical knowledge base.
•Interface for internal cross-functional (technical) collaboration between Vestas regional and global teams. This includes regional feedback for market-specific product development and solutions.
•Interface for external stakeholder (technical) collaboration to support Vestas in developing and supporting the wider renewable industry through integrated participation in technical forums and conferences.
•Extensive participation and support towards regional "Must-win" and special projects.
•Represent Vestas in relevant working groups and committees.
Competencies:
1. Experience in leading generator grid connections through various stages of the connection process- connection agreement, power-on, and testing, (operational experience would be an added value).
2. Experience in power system assessment using PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory simulation tools. Specifically, the interpretation of the plant and WTG performance from the assessment results.
3. Knowledge of Generator and power systems modeling. Wind farm modeling using Vestas product models is highly valued.
4. Knowledge of grid performance and capabilities of Vestas WTG and plant controller is highly valued.
5. Experience in negotiation with major stakeholders, such as clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
6. Experience in projection execution within the EPC framework from a grid connection perspective.
7. Enhanced technical report writing and presentation skills. Prior experience in conducting technical training and participation in technical conferences
