About The Role

In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of proactive, innovative strategies that reduce fire risk, enhance community safety and ensure compliance with key legislation including the CFA Act 1958 and FRV Act 1958.

You will coordinate the annual Fire Prevention Inspection Program, lead a team of Assistant MFPOs, manage fire hazard identification systems, and work closely with key emergency management and regional stakeholders. This role will also contribute to broader municipal emergency management responsibilities, supporting an integrated, community-focused approach.

Work type: Permanent full-time

Classification: Band 7 Commencing at $106,158 pa plus super


Key Responsibilities Include:

* Lead, mentor and manage a team of Assistant Municipal Fire Prevention Officers, monitoring workplans, performance and development.
* Partner closely with the Coordinator Emergency Management and MEMO and provide expert advice during municipal fire‑related incidents.
* Manage systems and processes for fire hazard identification, property inspections, notices and record keeping.
* Undertake inspectorial duties and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, local laws and fire prevention standards.
* Facilitate and/or participate in key committees and networks.
* Lead the annual review of the Municipal Fire Prevention Plan and support strategic fire management planning across the municipality.
* Provide strong community education through sound, practical fire prevention advice.
* Support and review processes under the CFA Act and FRV Act to ensure Council obligations are met.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will use your experience as a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer or in a similar compliance role, applying your knowledge of the relevant Acts and Regulations to ensure effective fire prevention and regulatory compliance. You will support operational programmes, provide guidance, and contribute to keeping the community safe.


Essential Experience

* In‑depth knowledge of relevant legislation, emergency management frameworks, and risk management principles.
* Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire, influence and guide others through change.
* Strong community focus and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills across government, emergency services and local communities.
* Confidence in public speaking, with experience providing strategic briefings and updates.
* Demonstrated project management expertise, able to manage competing priorities within tight timeframes.
* Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
* Current Working with Children Check (employee).
* Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
