Your next career opportunity

In this Research Assistant role, you will support vital research into Indigenous language recovery and revitalisation. You will collect and analyse qualitative data, synthesise evidence and help translate findings for diverse stakeholders. Working closely with academic leaders and community partners, you will gain experience in impactful, community‐engaged research.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Support design and delivery of empirical research on the economic impacts of Indigenous language revitalisation.
* Conduct desktop research, literature reviews and data analysis, contributing to robust interpretation of project findings.
* Assist with qualitative data collection in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including possible domestic travel.
* Prepare, proofread and edit academic and plain language outputs, ensuring clarity and accessibility for varied audiences.
* Coordinate project-related administration, meetings and reporting, supporting effective collaboration across academic and partner organisations.

You may be a great fit if:

* Hold a minimum Honours-level qualification in a humanities, social science or closely related discipline.
* Demonstrate capability in conducting research, including qualitative or quantitative methods, data analysis and desktop research.
* Apply skills in literature reviewing, critical appraisal and use of scholarly databases and reference management software.
* Use tools such as NVivo and strong writing skills to produce high-quality academic and plain language outputs.
* Collaborate effectively within small teams, managing competing deadlines while maintaining excellent professional and collegial conduct.
* Bring experience working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or other Indigenous or First Nations, communities.

The School of Culture and Communication, within the Faculty of Arts, is a vibrant centre for interdisciplinary research. You will join a team committed to advancing Indigenous knowledges, language revitalisation and social justice through collaborative partnerships. Working with First Languages Australia and community organisations, the team generates research with strong policy and community impact.
