We are seeking a strong leader for the unique role of Operations Manager. The Operations Manager of Communities holds a pivotal executive role, overseeing the Community Managers, Regional Aboriginal Employment Program (RAES), Municipal Services, Adult Education and Training (RTO), Youth Program, Playgroups and Financial literacy/homemaker Program.
This position aims to enhance social welfare, economic growth, and cultural richness to build resilient communities within the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, advancing the Ngaanyatjarra Council's strategic and business objectives.
Note that this role requires you to be on a 2/1 roster living on our lands in remote WA.
Responsibilities
* Direct and supervise staff in line with funding agreements and organisational policies, ensuring compliance and alignment with strategic objectives.
* Mentor, coach, and develop staff, managing onboarding and career progression while promoting a culture that aligns with organisational values and encourages high employee engagement.
* Conduct regular performance review meetings with direct reports, fostering a supportive and accountable work environment.
* Actively support and enhance the organisation's Work Health and Safety (WHS) management system, ensuring full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
* Champion a culture of safety and accountability across all levels of the organisation. Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and designated safety representatives to reinforce safety protocols and practices.
* Monitor for unsafe work practices, incidents, and hazards. Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of any safety concerns to facilitate immediate action and prevent recurrence.
About You
To qualify you will be able to demonstrate the following:
* Possess tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field
* C class Driver's licence
* National Police Clearance not older than 3 months
* Work rights in Australia
* Certification in remote team management or equivalent experience
* Advanced communication and interpersonal skills certification, focusing on high-stakes negotiations and remote communications.
Knowledge and Experience
* Strong understanding of the cultural, social, and economic dynamics that influence Indigenous communities. Committed to promoting cultural sensitivity, reconciliation, and self-determination within these communities.
* Proven senior executive leadership skills, evidenced by a history of driving innovation, enhancing collaboration, and securing significant community-focused outcomes.
* Well-versed in interpreting and applying funding guidelines, legislation, and regulations relevant to community development. Demonstrates robust financial management capabilities, including budgeting, financial monitoring, and reporting.
* Advanced analytical abilities that support thorough investigation and effective problem-solving. Proficient in evaluating complex information, formulate strategic recommendations, and adapt to evolving challenges and trends.
* Capable of applying work health and safety legislation and best practices effectively. Experienced in conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with technological tools that support remote management and operations.
* Extensive exposure to remote Aboriginal communities, with a strong commitment to developing skills that advocate for and improve community outcomes through respectful engagement and support.

About the Ngaanyatjarra Council
Welcome to Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a vibrant tapestry of culture and community nestled within the vast beauty of the Australian desert. Home to approximately 1800 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.
Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.
