Primary objective
Provide high level coordination, governance, secretariat support and management to the Northern Territory Environment Protection
Authority (NT EPA). This includes assisting the NT EPA to perform its statutory role and functions, meet statutory deadlines and properly
exercise its powers. Provide support to the wider Executive Administration Support Team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective secretariat support to the NT EPA Chair and members, including coordinating and preparing meeting agendas, taking
minutes, and managing meeting logistics such as travel and venue arrangements.
2. Deliver executive-level assistance to the NT EPA Chair and members by managing inboxes and diaries, organising travel, and ensuring
timely follow-up on actions arising from meetings.
3. Coordinate and schedule NT EPA meetings and out-of-session briefings, liaising with stakeholders to confirm attendance and distribute
relevant information.
4. Coordinate engagement and site visits with stakeholders that may include proponents, industry groups, agencies, regulators and
authorities.
5. Draft executive or administrative papers (e.g. updates to meetings procedures, strategic priorities, delegations, action list, updates to
stakeholder engagement plan) for the NT EPA, coordinating the proposed items and briefings from the divisions in line with priorities
and statutory deadlines.
1. Draft, review, proofread, and edit correspondence, briefs, and reports to maintain accuracy, clarity, and quality control.
2. Contribute to the documentation of and continuous improvement of policies, systems, and procedures to support the NT EPA's
independent statutory functions.
8. Manage and record the decisions, recommendations, determinations, circular resolutions and flow of information from the NT EPA,
exercising sound judgment to determine what should be shared with the department, divisions, and other stakeholders.
9. Draft, update, coordinate public facing NT EPA information including media statements, external correspondence and the NT EPA
website.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High-level interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with the NT EPA, senior executives, and a wide range of
stakeholders, including industry representatives, clients, the community, and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
2. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills to consult, collaborate, and contribute to diverse environmental
agendas. Must have the confidence to convey perspectives, arguments, and analyses clearly and accurately, adapting language as
necessary for different audiences.
1. Well-developed organisational, time management, and administrative skills to manage multiple competing priorities effectively and
meet deadlines.
1. Sound judgment and initiative in decision making, with the ability to refer/escalate matters to others when necessary, while maintaining
confidentiality and discretion.
1. Ability to work independently and manage challenges effectively, using discretion and exercising judgment where necessary.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Northern Territory Environment Protection Act 2019 and a thorough understanding of related environmental
legislation at both the Northern Territory and national levels.
2. Knowledge of Board management practices, including the role of the NT EPA within the broader regulatory framework and how
governance impacts decision-making.
