Primary Objectives
To support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing and leading the Finance and Members' Entitlements unit
(FAME) of the Department of the Legislative Assembly (DLA), providing strategic advice and direction for the delivery
of statutory entitlements for members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), as well as budgeting, accounting, taxation,
procurement, and reporting services to ensure compliance with financial and statutory obligations.
Context Statement
The DLA provides quality and timely support and advice for the operation of the Assembly, its committees, Parliament
House, and electorate offices and staff.
FAME, which sits within the Corporate and Electorate Support Division, provides advice and budget, financial and
reporting management. It also manages travel and fleet services, prepares reports for members on their use of
entitlements, and asset tracking and reporting and purchasing services for the Department.
Key Responsibilities
1. Interpret and analyse financial information and provide high level strategic advice on contemporary accounting,
taxation, procurement, and financial and statutory reporting obligations.
2. Assist the CFO to manage and prepare the DLA's budget including ongoing monitoring, maintenance and
variances whilst supporting Business Units to achieve their budget targets and compliance.
3. Draft Budget Cabinet Submissions for the DLA.
4. Provide high quality financial modelling, financial and payroll reports, financial statements, briefings, and other
financial information for key stakeholders and often for public access.
5. Manage the accuracy of the DLA's asset registers, including ICT, furniture, and portable and attractive items.
6. Provide effective leadership and management of staff to ensure the team delivers its statutory, corporate, and
service delivery obligations.
7. Manage the purchasing activities for the Department.
8. Manage and maintain corporate, travel and financial systems used in the DLA.

Selection Criteria
Essential
1. High standard of accounting professional and technical skills and the ability to interpret and apply legislation,
policies and Accounting Standards and ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data.
2. Substantial experience in accounting and financial management, with proven ability to develop and implement
financial policy and procedures.
3. Substantial experience in the use and set up of complex tools, such as spreadsheets, for the effective
management and reporting of financial data.
1. Experience effectively managing staff.
2. Ability to operate independently and as a member of a team and manage confidential and sensitive information.
3. Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to produce high quality
correspondence and reports (suitable for Executives, MLAs, Cabinet and Ministerial level).
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or business, and membership of a professional accounting body,
such as Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Requirements for Selection and Undertaking the Role
1. Prior to being formally offered a position with the Department of the Legislative Assembly, applicants will be

from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history.
1. Access to recreation leave will be restricted during Parliamentary sitting periods.
2. The position is based at Parliament House; however, some travel within the Northern Territory may be required.
3. The right to disconnect – This position is not expected to be available for regular work-related contact outside of
normal work hours.
