The Role

The Defence Finance Group (DFG) is seeking a highly motivated Executive Officer (EO) to support the First Assistant Secretary, Financial Performance and Management (FAS FPM). As the EO to FAS FPM, you will be responsible for providing a broad range of strategic coordination for the FAS Office and you will be accountable under broad direction for performing complex administrative support work within an integrated and geographically disbursed workforce.

You will have demonstrated a high proficiency in providing advice, research and written communication. You will hold high-level stakeholder management and coordination skills including the ability to communicate, liaise and build productive relationships with a wide range of people to support the FAS and the Division more broadly.

You will exercise a degree of independence and perform a leadership role, which will include the management of resources and the provision of oversight and leadership to the APS 5 Executive Assistant to the FAS, and other EAs within the Division.

You will also be required to support, as required, the Senior EA and EO to the Chief Finance Officer. You will have a good knowledge of the broader Defence environment and will be responsible for achieving high quality business outcomes, with good service delivery at the forefront of decision-making.

This exciting opportunity will provide you with insight and access to the FAS and DFG Senior Executives and will broaden your strategic awareness of DFG, Defence and other Commonwealth Agencies. You will report directly to the FAS and assist in the day-to-day coordination of the FAS Office and the Division.

You will also be required to co-ordinate Divisional input into enterprise committees, Question Time Briefs, and ministerial submissions, and will have the opportunity to work closely with the CFO Office on a daily basis.

FAS FPM plays a critical role in the Defence senior committee processes, and you will be required to coordinate workflow around capability cabinet submissions that are being considered by the Investment Committee through the CFO.

In this role, you will also provide a high level of support for Division-level business management functions, including assisting in the preparation of the divisional business plan, coordinating division communication, and setting agendas for division meetings.

The role of the Defence Finance Group (DFG) is to provide the full range of financial advice, services and systems to the Defence enterprise. DFG consists of two Divisions, Financial Performance and Management (FPM) Division and Budgets and Financial Services (BFS) Division.

FPM Division provides client-facing and embedded finance partners across the country working closely with Defence Groups and Services to deliver management accounting, advice on budgets, delegations, funding, and costing financial policies. BFS Division delivers the full range of central financial functions including Commonwealth and internal budgeting, statutory financial requirements, financial systems, operations and policies.

With a team of over 700 people spread across Australia, with significant offices in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, DFG is the largest finance function in the Commonwealth. Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Baseline Vetting level.
