Job Overview
The Student Support Coordinator is an integral role in the School of Isolated and Distance Education's (SIDE's) Referrals team, working closely with SIDE Regional Coordinators, Learning Area leaders and the School Psychology team to strengthen coordination practices and build staff capacity across the school. The Referrals program supports students with severe physical and mental health challenges and pregnant students wanting to continue their schooling in a highly supportive online environment. The coordinator will develop best practice procedures for continuity of schooling for severely ill or pregnant students, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
The successful applicant will contribute to sophisticated workflows used to monitor students' academic progress and risk profiles, provide mentoring, consultation and guidance around case management, and support Regional and Referrals Coordinators in responding to complex student needs. The role involves leadership within whole school initiatives, particularly in the Referrals Program, and strengthening a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture for students and families dealing with severe and complex health issues.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement best practice procedures for continuity of schooling for severely ill or pregnant students.
* Manage workflows to monitor students' academic progress and risk profiles.
* Provide mentoring, consultation and guidance around case management to support Regional and Referrals Coordinators.
* Lead case‐management initiatives, collaborating with the Referrals Coordinator, School Psychology Team, Partner School Case Managers, the SIDE Deputy Principal, and School and Student Services.
* Assist Learning Area leaders in planning processes for students and provide guidance on referrals to external agencies when additional support is required.
* Coordinate timely and supportive responses to critical incidents involving students.
* Demonstrate leadership in whole‐school initiatives, particularly the Referrals Program.
Qualifications
* Considerable knowledge and understanding of pastoral care delivery, alternative support agencies, pathways, education programs, and behaviour/risk‐management planning.
* Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
* Well‐developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively.
* Well‐developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programmes.
* Experience working with individual or small groups of students facing difficulties.
* Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.
Eligibility and Equity
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid visa with the relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before starting.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting.
