About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support a major data centre and virtualisation program. This role will oversee core infrastructure operations, delivery, and optimisation across compute, storage, virtualisation, and data centre technologies, with a strong emphasis on enterprise storage platforms such as Hitachi, Dell EMC, and NetApp. In addition to technical leadership, the position requires proven people management capability, guiding junior engineers and coordinating tasks across cross‑functional teams.
The successful candidate will play a key part in stabilising, enhancing, and modernising infrastructure services while ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance across all environments.
Responsibilities
* Oversee day‑to‑day operations of data centre infrastructure, including compute, storage, and virtualisation platforms.
* Manage and support enterprise storage technologies including Hitachi (HCP, VSP, HNAS), Dell EMC, NetApp, and other SAN/NAS platforms.
* Administer and optimise VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi clusters, and related virtualisation ecosystems.
* Lead incident management, problem resolution, root‑cause analysis, capacity management, and performance optimisation.
* Deliver infrastructure upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management activities.
* Provide mentoring, task allocation, and technical leadership to junior team members.
* Work closely with project teams on data centre modernisation, consolidation, and refresh initiatives.
* Monitor infrastructure availability, storage utilisation, and performance using standard enterprise toolsets.
* Collaborate with network, cyber, and application teams to ensure alignment and smooth delivery of cross‑functional initiatives.
* Maintain documentation including LLDs/HLDs, runbooks, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.
* Support continuous improvement activities to uplift stability, resilience, and operational maturity.
Requirements
* Strong experience working in enterprise data centre environments, including compute, storage, and virtualisation operations.
* Comprehensive hands‑on experience with Hitachi Storage (VSP, HCP, HNAS), and working knowledge of Dell EMC, NetApp, and other enterprise SAN/NAS platforms.
* Solid background in VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, SRM, and virtualisation best practices.
* Strong understanding of backup and replication technologies (e.g., Veeam, Data Domain, RecoverPoint, HUR).
* Experience with infrastructure automation tools (PowerShell, Ansible, PowerCLI) highly regarded.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor team members, including workload coordination and performance support.
* Clear understanding of ITIL processes: incident, problem, change, and configuration management.
* Strong troubleshooting capabilities across compute, storage, and virtualisation stacks.
* Ability to work effectively onsite, engaging with stakeholders, project teams, and operations.
* Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly.
Desired Qualifications
* Vendor certifications in Hitachi (HDS), Dell EMC, NetApp, or VMware (VCP) are highly advantageous.
* Experience in hybrid cloud environments (Azure/AWS) is a plus.
* Exposure to data centre migration or modernisation programs.
* ITIL Foundation certification.
