Intermediate Mechanical Engineer – Overview
The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer works as part of the Engineering Services team to partner with the Engineering team and members of the Capital Works & Minor Projects (CWMP), Campus Facilities Management, and Major Projects & Planning teams. The role supports delivery of new capital works projects and complex maintenance solutions across Griffith University's 5 campuses and over 500,000m2 of facilities.
Griffith owns a diverse portfolio of critical, high‐complexity facilities, including research laboratories, nuclear medicine facilities, data centres, applied science spaces, dental teaching clinics, libraries, art galleries, and music performance venues. You will collaborate with an in‐house BMS, electrical, hydraulic and fire engineering team, and gain exposure to project‐management aspects such as programme, cost and contract administration.
Mentorship and academic collaboration opportunities support professional development and pathways to recognised engineering institutes.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a core member of the mechanical engineering team within Engineering Services.
* Draft briefs for new build and refurbishment projects and contribute across all project stages, including site inspections and commissioning to end‐of‐life.
* Update and maintain Mechanical Services infrastructure information; support facilities management with complex tasks.
* Deliver engineering projects focused on asset replacement and energy‐efficiency initiatives.
About you
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (recognised in Australia) with current membership of a recognised engineering institution and pursuit of RPEQ.
* Minimum of 4 years post‐graduate experience in an Australian building‐services engineering consultancy, ideally within university, laboratory or hospital facilities.
* Team‐focused, capable of engaging a diverse range of stakeholders and working proactively with project managers, maintenance and asset‐management staff to enhance asset performance.
* Committed to learning, career progression and the complex variety of facilities managed by Griffith University.
Work Environment
Full‐time position based at Griffith University, Brisbane South (Nathan). Regular travel to other sites – Mt Gravatt, Gold Coast, Logan and South Bank Brisbane – is required.

Salary
HEW 7 salary range: $104,504 – $113,219 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. Total remuneration range: $122,270 – $132,466 per annum.
