Outback Spirit Tours offers a range of unique adventure tours, desert safaris and luxury short stays across our beautiful country. Our adventures capture the very essence of Australia, from the rugged red cliffs of the Kimberley to the unspoiled natural wonder of Tasmania, we bring iconic experiences to life. We operate 9 lodges in some of the most remote, inaccessible and beautiful locations. Our team of guides, drivers, camp and operations staff are passionate about the outdoors and take pride in bringing our guests on the adventure of a lifetime.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Outback Spirit is on the lookout for skilled Mechanics to enhance our dedicated team in two exciting roles:
1. Lodge Mechanic : Full-time, fixed-term contract until the end of November at Seven Spirit Bay Lodge in Arnhem Land. This is a live-in position with accommodation and meals provided, allowing you to immerse yourself in one of Australia’s most breathtaking and unique locations.
2. Depot Mechanic : 3-month fixed-term contract until the end of August, based out of our Darwin Depot. Please note, this is not a live-in position. You will predominantly work on our fleet of 5-star Mercedes-Benz 4WDs, which are the pinnacle of outback touring and are used for all our adventures.
In both roles, you will take on vital responsibilities for the servicing and maintenance of our premium Outback Spirit service fleet, which can include vehicles, vessels, and various machinery. Your contributions will play a key role in ensuring a pleasant and safe experience for all guests, visitors, and team members.
Key Responsibilities for the Lodge Mechanic Include:
* Collaborate with management to prioritise and coordinate repairs and maintenance, ensuring all fleet vehicles and vessels are operational for scheduled tours.
* Conduct preventive maintenance servicing and breakdown repairs for all fleet items and property maintenance equipment, minimising any disruption to our guests.
* Perform regular maintenance on prime power generators to ensure a reliable power supply for the lodge.
* Employ cost-effective and efficient methods for maintenance while upholding high-quality standards.
* Maintain a strong commitment to safety by adhering to all workplace health and safety policies and procedures, fostering a safe environment for yourself and your colleagues.
Key Responsibilities for the Darwin Depot Mechanic Include:
* Carry out regular servicing of the fleet.
* Maintain both heavy and lighter vehicles.
* Perform mechanical diagnostics.
* Provide field service support, communicating with Tour Drivers during breakdown situations via phone and attending on-road call-outs as required.
* Conduct stock takes and order necessary parts.
* Ensure safe and efficient operations within the workshop.
ABOUT YOU:
To thrive either of these roles, you will need to demonstrate proven mechanic experience, alongside strong attention to detail and effective troubleshooting abilities. Exceptional communication skills and strong customer service capabilities are also essential.
The ideal candidate will possess:
* Mechanical experience with heavy vehicles (required).
* Mechanical experience with vessels (preferred).
* Mechanical experience with generators (preferred).
* Knowledge of diesel and unleaded petrol (ULP) motors.
* Proficiency in repairing and troubleshooting both mechanical and auto electrical equipment.
* Proven expertise with marine vessels and land-based tour vehicles.
* A mechanical trade qualification covering both petrol and diesel engines.
* A valid Driver’s Licence (Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) preferred).
* A Forklift Licence.
* Previous experience in remote work environments.
* Strong communication and literacy skills, coupled with a diligent work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.
* A high level of computer proficiency, including analytical reporting skills.
