The Child Youth Mental Health Services is looking for a Carer Peer Worker to join their multidisciplinary team in the Adolescent Day Program

The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Carer Peer Worker (Identified Lived Experience - Adolescent Day Program) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

* Provide carer peer support, practical assistance, education, information and referrals to carers, families and significant others
* Supporting the planning, facilitation and evaluation of carer peer support groups, educational programs and other activities that foster social inclusion, family recovery and long-term wellbeing
* Advocating for the inclusion of carer and family perspectives and input into care and recovery plans working alongside multidisciplinary teams to strengthen and support the connection and engagement between carers and the clinicians delivering care
* Working with families, multidisciplinary health care teams, service providers, education and training providers

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

* It is a mandatory requirement of this position that the employee has a lived/living experience of mental illness, service use and recovery and is able to use this experience to support others living with mental health and substance use challenges.
* Whilst not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Mental Health, or demonstration of working towards obtaining these or similar qualifications or higher would be well regarded
* Blue card / Working with children check (GCH will cover cost)
* Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
* Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
* Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
* Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

* Temporary part time (64 hrs p.f, 6 months with the possibility of extension)
* Base salary ranging from $39.98 - $44.46 per hour

About Us

The Adolescent Day Program (ADP) is part of the state-wide Child and Youth Mental Health Service continuum of care providing specialist, multidisciplinary assessment and integrated treatment for adolescents with severe, complex and persistent mental illnesses which results in severe psychosocial impairment. The ADP operates on the premise that young people can and do recover from mental illness. A range of interagency, recovery-focused, psychosocial, educational and vocational programs are tailored to the young person's assessed clinical and rehabilitation needs enabling the young person to build on their strengths, enhance their self esteem, build on opportunities for social inclusion and promote recovery-focused outcomes upon discharge.
