Intern Program 2026/2027 – Electrical Engineer – Gladstone, QLD
Join Rio Tinto as an Intern Electrical Engineer in Gladstone, working at either Yarwun Alumina Refinery or Boyne Smelter. We are looking for students in their penultimate year or 2nd/3rd year studying Electrical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering major.
The internship offers 12‐week Summer experience, with the possibility of securing a graduate position upon completion. You will learn how a refinery or smelter operates day‐to‐day, work alongside experienced engineers, and contribute to improving 24‐hour processes in large‐scale processing environments.

The 12‐week Summer Internship Program provides hands‐on experience in a complex industrial setting, from electric power distribution to real‐time process control.

Where you will be working
Boyne Smelters Limited – Australia's second largest aluminium smelter, located approximately 20 km southeast of Gladstone. Operations include carbon anode manufacturing, aluminium smelting, and casting.
Yarwun Alumina Refinery – located approximately 10 km northwest of Gladstone, processing bauxite from local mines to produce more than three million tonnes of alumina annually.
Eligibility
* Students in penultimate year or 2nd/3rd year of Electrical Engineering or related major.
* Right to work in Australia or New Zealand (citizens, permanent residents, student or postgraduate work visa holders).
