About the role
Engineer Developer Services (EDS) is a newly formed team, part of the Modelling & Engineering division in Operations.
M&E; are responsible for assessment of high-impact low-probability events, review of major power system incidents, commissioning of new inter-network capacity between NEM regions, power system data and model management and AEMO’s data request function.
This role leads the maintenance and development of power system engineering focused tools that support M&E; functions, uplifting AEMO and industry with fit for purpose tools and operational capabilities.
You will be responsible for fulfilling all aspects of the IT Custodian role for tools developed by EDS, including the AEMO Modelling Platform, Phasor Analytics System and Marginal Loss Factor Calculation.
You will support the uplift of engineering developer skills across AEMO’s Operations business in alignment with enterprise patterns, cyber resilience and ensuring supportability.
What you will be doing Lead a diverse multi-disciplinary team of engineers and developers with experience ranging from graduate to principal and specialist through our foundation and growth phase and develop the capabilities and talent pipeline to support upcoming projects and sustainable effective tool maintenance.
Fulfill all aspects of IT Custodian for and lead the management support and development of applications and tools used for management of power system data, power system modelling and operational purposes in the AMP tool and other related systems (ASPECT, MANA, MLF ).
Actively support Operations Technology Program Modelling uplift projects and AEMO Modelling Strategy initiatives.
Continue to support and grow training programs to uplift skills of developers within Operation’s business teams and improve standardisation across AEMO.
In addition, support teams who wish to develop their own development capability and applications.
Support definition of business requirements for Operations projects supporting successful interfaces between Operations and Digital teams.
What you will bring to the role You will bring a unique blend of engineering and software development skills.
These will ideally encompass some (but not necessarily all) of the below:
Appropriate tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in a related discipline.
Experience leading a software development team, including planning and delivering training for junior Engineers / Analysts and leading later career engineers such as Principals and Specialists.
(The current technology stack includes SQL Server, Python, Vue and TypeScript and will evolve over time).
Significant experience in the management of power system applications and automation tools and familiarity with online and offline power system applications.
Knowledge of Power system fundamentals including dispatch, power system analysis, monitoring and security assessment highly desirable.
Strong understanding of data governance including version control, software development life-cycle and data security and awareness of current and emerging computational capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to manage small-medium projects including resourcing, time and cost management.
