The Financial Counsellors' Association of NSW Inc. (FCAN) is the peak membership body for financial counsellors in New South Wales. We advocate for the financial counselling sector and support our members who provide free, confidential and independent services and support to people experiencing financial hardship.
The role
Part time - 3 days per week.
Based in Sydney.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening the financial counselling sector in NSW. As Operations and Stakeholder Manager, you will support the development and delivery of FCAN's stakeholder engagement strategy. Your work will help raise the profile of financial counselling and build support to increase sector capacity, so that more people experiencing financial hardship can access vital services.
Reporting to the Executive Officer, this role will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Association to ensure we meet our objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement
Position FCAN as a strong, professional voice for financial counsellors in external communications, media interactions, submissions, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including advocacy organisations, industry partners, government bodies, and FCAN members.
Act as a representative voice for the needs and views of financial counsellors in NSW.
Policy, Advocacy & Research
Identify advocacy priorities in consultation with the Executive Officer, Board, and members, and implement effective strategies and campaigns.
Prepare high-quality policy submissions and collaborate on joint submissions.
Support and develop working groups, specialist networks, and member structures to guide FCAN's advocacy work.
Represent FCAN on external policy working groups relevant to our mission and objectives.
Organisational Processes
Develop and implement innovative processes for planning, evaluation, reporting (to members, government, and stakeholders), continuous quality improvement, and membership engagement.
Other Responsibilities
Represent FCAN professionally at all times, which includes speaking with media or journalists on behalf of FCAN.
Comply with organisational policies and procedures.
Manage time effectively to ensure productivity and meet deadlines.
Perform other duties as directed within the scope of the role and your expertise.
Skills and experience
Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, policy, advocacy, or campaigns within consumer or community contexts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including media experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels in a positive and informative manner.
Collaborative approach and ability to manage a small, high-performing team.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
Experience with digital platforms such as WordPress and stakeholder databases.
Outcome-focused with a genuine commitment to supporting FCAN members, stakeholders, and people experiencing financial hardship.
Flexible, proactive, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Experience in the community or non-profit sector, particularly in social justice or advocacy roles.
Experience in a leadership role.
Understanding of financial counselling, NGOs, and the broader community sector.
