Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.The Peer Support Worker uses their lived experience of mental health in a purposeful way that provides hope for consumers, and practical strategies that support recovery and independence.RoleThis is an integrated role within Community Mental Health with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles.
This role will support consumers across four main areas:Developing and promoting good physical and mental health.Access to housing, employment and education goals.Re-discovering or building a sense of purpose and personal identity.Forming active connections to the community of the consumers' choice.Peer Support Workers are integrated within a multidisciplinary team made up of mental health clinicians including occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
They work within the model of care for a Community Mental Health Core Team, directly supporting individuals to promote recovery and physical health, and facilitating groups, often with a physical health focus such as exercise groups.
Peer support is always person-led and contingent on peer choice.Child protection is a core responsibility for all staff working in child and adolescent mental health services.
All staff must be familiar with and adhere to policies related to Child Protection and the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
Issues identified should be documented, escalated, and addressed appropriately.For more information, please view the Position Description.Ideal CandidatePersonal experience of mental distress/illness and demonstrated recovery-oriented practice are essential.
A relevant degree is required for payment at the Graduate rate.
The candidate should have the ability and foundational knowledge to facilitate physical health-focused groups, and demonstrate knowledge and ability to plan, implement, and evaluate peer-led interventions.
