Base pay range

$77,354.00/yr - $85,833.00/yr

QCAT is an independent tribunal established under the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2009. QCAT plays an integral role in the Queensland justice system with a mandate to provide a quick and inexpensive avenue to resolve and determine disputes, applications, reviews and referrals in a wide range of jurisdictions.

As a Hearing Support Officer, you will support tribunal decision-makers and parties during QCAT proceedings. You will liaise with a wide range of parties, including vulnerable members of the community, with professionalism and sensitivity. This continuous applicant pool is open for candidates interested in employment opportunities as a temporary Hearing Support Officer to fill vacancies due to permanent staff on leave, higher duties or secondment.

As a Hearing Support Officer, you will support tribunal decision-makers and parties during QCAT proceedings, manage recording and monitoring in line with the Recording of Evidence Act 1962, and perform administrative tasks such as drafting and issuing tribunal orders and coordinating party appearances. While the role requires independent work at times, you will also collaborate closely with a larger team of Hearing Support Officers and Senior Hearing Support Officers. Your Key Responsibilities

* Ensuring the effective execution of administrative processes and provide support to tribunal decision-makers in the hearing room, contribute to comprehensive services for members of the public, judicial officers, and various internal and external stakeholders.
* Supporting tribunal decision-makers in the hearing room including coordinating attendance of tribunal users (including using telephone and video conferencing) and managing exhibits during hearings.
* Effectively and efficiently managing the recording and transcription services for QCAT proceedings, in line with responsibilities under the Recording of Evidence Act 1962.
* Effectively and efficiently supporting the needs of clients and the public attending proceedings. This includes cultivating and nurturing professional and collaborative relationships based on respectful and confidential engagement with key stakeholders including tribunal decision-makers.
* Providing accurate information to registry staff, and QCAT judicial officers and tribunal decision-makers in a professional and friendly manner.
* Undertaking accurate computer-based processing using QCAT's file management systems and recording programs, including drafting and issuing tribunal orders.
* Preparing and updating documents using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
* Adhering to established administrative processes, policies and procedures related to tribunal and registry operations in strict accordance with relevant legislation, departmental policies and procedures to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
* Prioritising tasks in a fast paced and high-volume environment to enable the provision of effective hearing support services.
* Taking ownership of developing skills, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current practices and procedures, seeking feedback, and staying motivated when managing challenging tasks.
* Completing general administrative tasks as required by team leaders and/or manager to support the delivery of services within QCAT.
