The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Effective communication with our members, volunteers, and the wider community is vital for sharing our progress, celebrating achievements, and fostering ongoing support for our mission. Our newsletter is a primary tool for this engagement.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Newsletter Editor to volunteer their talents in crafting compelling content for DRR's regular newsletter. This is a crucial role for someone with a passion for storytelling, excellent writing skills, and an interest in heritage. You will be responsible for the entire process of producing our newsletter, from gathering information to writing, editing, and preparing it for distribution. If you enjoy connecting with people, have an eye for detail, and want to help share the exciting journey of DRR, this is a highly rewarding opportunity.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
* Plan, research, write, and edit engaging articles and updates for the DRR newsletter.
* Gather information from various sources within DRR (e.g., Board, workshop leads, operations, events).
* Conduct interviews with volunteers and staff to capture their stories and contributions.
* Ensure content is accurate, informative, and aligns with DRR's messaging and brand.
* Manage the newsletter production schedule and deadlines.
* Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team (if applicable) and other volunteers.
* Adhere strictly to all DRR policies and communication guidelines.
* Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
