This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026. Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) provides students from Year 7 to 12 with a personalised educational experience. The school, at the heart of South Bunbury, has a strong sense of community and celebrates the strengths of students through a variety of cutting-edge programs.

The school delivers two Department of Education Approved Specialist Academic Programs: Science Horizons and Engineering. Newton Moore SHS is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for Certificate courses. We have other complimentary programs Moore Academy of Sport and Health (MASH), Follow the Dream, Clontarf Football Academy, Stars Foundation and Calm Cadets.
As the Head of Department - English, you will be a key member of the administrative team, working closely with the Principal to provide educational leadership within the school and the broader community. Your primary focus will be on leading curriculum innovation within the English Learning Area, with a strong emphasis on aligning teaching and learning with the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and the latest curriculum developments. You will work collaboratively with staff to develop a vision for English that promotes engagement, accessibility, and relevance for all students, supporting their success across diverse pathways.
You will provide professional guidance to English teachers, ensuring they are informed about current curriculum updates, inclusive teaching strategies, and culturally responsive practices. As a role model of evidence-based teaching and leadership, you will support staff in all aspects of their work, including behaviour management, assessment, parent communication, and strategic planning. A key part of your role will be to lead the development of a learning area operational plan that reflects the priorities of the school’s Business Plan and Strategic Directions, ensuring effective implementation of curriculum, compliance, and reporting practices across Years 7 to 12.
You will foster a team culture that values collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Supporting staff development both individually and collectively, you will implement performance management strategies and lead constructive conversations that promote resilience and professional growth. You will also play a critical role in leading change, guiding the school community in embracing new approaches to literacy and curriculum design that make English more engaging and accessible for all students, including those pursuing ATAR, General, Foundation, and VET pathways.
Your leadership will extend to participative decision-making, policy development, and the establishment of systems that support inclusive and culturally secure education. You will use high-level data analysis to monitor student progress, evaluate teaching effectiveness, and inform strategic planning. Through your work, you will contribute to a learning environment where students are inspired to remain engaged in school and achieve success in their chosen pathways.
