About the role
Join Australian Retirement Trust as a Senior Risk Specialist, Investment Risk, a technical role within the Risk & Compliance function operating as part of the second line of defence. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Risk, you\'ll provide specialist risk advice, analysis and insight across public and private market investments.
You\'ll work closely across the investment ecosystem, partnering with Investment, Investment Operations, Compliance and Risk specialists to support effective risk management, governance and decision-making.
This role offers a high level of autonomy and professional judgement, positioning you as a trusted risk partner who delivers practical, proportionate challenge to support strong member outcomes. You\'ll also contribute to the ongoing maturity of ART's investment risk frameworks, reporting and practices.
Key aspects of the role include:
* Provide specialist investment risk advice, analysis and insights across public and private markets
* Assess investment strategies, products, initiatives and projects with a risk lens
* Partner with Investment and Investment Operations teams to support sound, risk-informed decision-making
* Support investment risk management processes, including risk and control assessments and issue management
* Identify, assess and escalate emerging risks and control weaknesses in collaboration with first-line stakeholders
* Monitor investment risk exposures and key risk indicators, escalating concerns where required
* Contribute to high-quality investment risk reporting for senior management and governance forums
* Support the application and continuous improvement of investment risk frameworks, policies and standards
* Assist with regulatory reviews, audits and assurance activities relevant to investment risk
About you
It goes without saying you\'ll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We\'ll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It\'s quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
* Demonstrated experience in investment risk management within investment management, financial markets, trading, private assets and investment operations environments
* Strong understanding of investment risks across public and private markets, including complex and illiquid asset classes
* Proven ability to provide practical, commercially balanced risk advice that supports sound investment decision-making
* Experience assessing investment strategies, products, initiatives or transactions from a risk perspective
* Solid knowledge of investment risk frameworks, governance processes and regulatory requirements
* Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex risk issues clearly
* Comfortable working autonomously in a senior, second-line risk role, exercising sound judgement in a dynamic environment
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience partnering closely with investment, trading or operations teams
* Experience contributing to risk reporting, insights or governance forums at a senior level
* Relevant professional qualifications (such as CFA, FRM or similar) will be highly regarded
