Salary: Advanced Operator (Grade 9 - $1313.65 > $1450.02 + 12% Superannuation and CLA)

Gunnedah Shire Council is seeking Specialist Plant Operators to join our Works team as Advanced and Versatile Operators. The role reports to the Works Coordinator and involves operating a range of construction and maintenance machinery, supporting infrastructure projects, and maintaining public facilities and spaces.
Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain assigned complex plant safely and in accordance with company standing operating procedures.
* Ensure compliance with Council's WHS policies and with legislative requirements or regulations.
* Perform general road maintenance operational works: operate small plant, hand tools, traffic control duties, and apply basic engineering principles.
* Conduct quality checks to identify and remediate defects.
* Supervise staff when delegated by the Team Leader.
* Collaborate with department colleagues to complete work programs within agreed timeframes and standards.
* Apply WHS and risk management systems per Council's policies and procedures.
* Complete assigned administrative tasks accurately per Council's procedures.
* Maintain required qualifications for the position and undertake agreed training to meet the desired skill level.
* Participate in on‐call duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
* Advanced Operator: Cert 4 in Civil Construction or willing to undertake with 5+ years direct work experience.
* Experience operating GPS‐guided grader and other construction plant.
* HC class driver's licence highly desired.
* PWZ ticket highly desired.
* Other essential requirements of a Versatile Operator (see below).
* Versatile Operator: Cert 3 in Civil Construction or willing to undertake with 5+ years direct work experience.
* High competence in operating at least three of the following plants – Grader, Excavator, HR/MR/HC Truck, Backhoe, Jet Patcher, Dozer, Stabiliser/Mixer, Loader.
