What You'll Be Doing
The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive and specialist social work services to children, young people, and their families referred to PECAT, located within the Child Development Unit at The Children’s Hospital Westmead. PECAT is a tertiary diagnosis and assessment unit for children with complex developmental disorders, including global developmental delay, intellectual disability, severe learning disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and disruptive behaviors. The social worker's role includes processing referrals, coordinating intake clinics, triaging appointments, conducting psychosocial assessments, providing specialist counseling, group work, psycho-education, and advocacy. The social worker works as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The senior social worker plays a key role in service development and quality improvement, providing leadership in education programs for social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The role also involves consultation to key stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
* Eligibility for AASW membership with significant postgraduate experience in social work practice with families and children, particularly in health settings.
* Extensive postgraduate experience in social work with children and families.
* Well-developed knowledge of psychosocial challenges faced by families with children with developmental disabilities and familiarity with community resources.
* Experience in psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counseling, and group work.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in clinical supervision, professional education, service planning, and quality improvement activities.
* Willingness to share after-hours and weekend on-call duties.
* Competent computer skills and adaptability to new IT systems.
