Bushland Restoration Services is looking to appoint a full-time GIS Officer to their team in the Northern Rivers NSW to support their work in ecological restoration and consultancy.
This permanent full-time (38 hours a week) role is based in our South Murwillumbah depot with some field work required during site visits.
**Role Description**
Your role will include acquiring and presenting GIS data, developing property vegetation management and habitat restoration plans, as well as providing advice and support to internal activities and external customers and providing expert advice on best practice ecological restoration.
Day to day tasks include:
- Interpreting requirements and producing highly reliable, quality and easily interpreted GIS maps for our team on the ground and for clients.
- Creating, sourcing, digitising and maintaining the company GIS data to agreed standards.
- Evaluating, compiling and maintaining spatial information including aerial photographs, satellite imagery, survey documents, existing maps and records, historical data, drawings, field data, reports and statistics.
- Elaborating high sthigh-standardndard vegetation management plans, habitat restoration plans, restoration strategies, reports, demonstrating expertise in ecological restoration and environmental planning at different scales.
- Advising ecologists, botanists and other professionals on the technical requirements of mapping.
- Monitoring and reporting results.
- Supervising natural regeneration teams on the ground in a variety of ecosystems and plant communities, and completing Daily Record Sheets, field maps and Work Health & Safety documents.
- Assisting the manager with day-to-day activities such as dealing with clients, site visits, website maintenance, and administrative tasks.
- Providing training and environmental education workshops.
**You will have**:
- Experience with GIS and field data collection software such as QGIS, Avenza Maps, and other software such as Microsoft Office.
- Minimum 4 years of industry exposure and demonstrated experience supervising field operations in bushland regeneration.
- Knowledge of native and exotic species of Northern New South Wales and South East Queensland and solid plant identification skills.
- Technical and practical understanding of weed control techniques.
- Creativity, problem-solving and sound communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Geography, GIS or other tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as Science, Surveying or relevant Engineering fields.
- Certificate III in Conservation & Ecosystem Management or higher, or equivalent.
- Open manual driver's licence, own transportation and willingness to travel.
- First Aid certificate.
- White Card.
- Current National Police Certificate.
