A boutique interior design studio is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join their passionate team. This studio specialises in high-end residential interiors with a focus on artisanal craftsmanship, sophisticated materiality, and spaces that feel both luxurious and liveable. They're known for their refined aesthetic that balances contemporary elegance with unique, handcrafted details.
The studio operates with a close-knit, collaborative approach where creativity thrives and every project is treated as a bespoke work of art. This role offers flexible working arrangements from 2-5 days per week depending on your preference — perfect for an experienced designer who wants flexibility while working on exceptional projects. The studio is particularly interested in candidates who have worked at boutique design firms that share a similar aesthetic philosophy of refined, artisanal design.
The ideal candidate will have an innate understanding of sophisticated residential interiors, exceptional joinery design skills, and the ability to translate creative vision into beautifully executed spaces. You'll need to be equally comfortable handling the technical aspects of design documentation as you are navigating the emotional journey of high-end residential projects.
In the role as Senior Interior Designer, you'll be:
* Leading design development for luxury residential projects from concept through to completion
* Creating detailed joinery designs and working drawings that bring the design vision to life
* Producing comprehensive design documentation including plans, elevations, sections, and specifications
* Collaborating closely with the Director on creative direction while managing day-to-day project delivery
* Liaising with builders, contractors, and suppliers to ensure flawless execution
* Mentoring junior designers and interns, sharing your expertise and helping develop emerging talent
* Managing client relationships with warmth and professionalism, including navigating the emotional highs and lows of the design process
* Staying current with design trends, materials, and innovative solutions that align with the studio's aesthetic
In the role as Senior Interior Designer, we require you to have the following minimum experience:
* Minimum 8-10+ years experience in high-end residential interior design
* Proven track record working at boutique design studios with similar aesthetic sensibilities
* Exceptional joinery design skills with ability to create detailed technical drawings
* Strong hand-drawing and digital documentation skills (CAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite)
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through to completion
* Experience mentoring junior staff and managing interns
* Warm, collaborative personality with excellent communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously while being supportive of directorial vision and feedback
* Understanding of Australian building codes, standards, and construction methods
* You must be based in Sydney with full working rights in Australia
