Become a Key Member of Sarah’s Support Team at GCCL!
Do you want to work in a place where compassion, respect, fun, and real support for participants come first, and be part of an NGO with heart? We’re GCCL. We take pride in being a service that values people, invests in training, supports our team, and truly puts participants first. We believe in building real relationships, not just shifts.Meet Sarah. She’s 32, full of life, and ready to embrace new adventures. She loves music, art, adventure, travel, her dog Pippa, the beach, nights out with friends, and family time. She’s creative, cheeky, and full of humour, always up for a laugh and making memories. She’s just moved into her beautiful new home out in Currumbin Valley (built by her family). Sarah lives with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, scoliosis, and CACNA1A, and uses a power chair. She needs support with transfers, daily routines, mobility, and sometimes when communicating.
Why Working with Sarah at GCCL Is So Special
* Direct, meaningful impact. This isn’t just shiftwork. You’ll be helping Sarah build her “tribe,” explore her world, and achieve real independence.
* Person‑centred care. Everything we do is focused on what Sarah wants, enjoys, and aspires to, not just ticking boxes.
* Flexibility & variety. Every day is different, from beach outings to quiet nights in, weekend adventures, or overnight support.
* Team‑based, supportive environment. You’re part of a caring, values‑driven team that believes in respect, choice, and dignity.
What We’re Looking For in You
You are:
* Kind, patient, and observant, ready to read non‑verbal cues, respond to mood changes, and support Sarah with sensitivity and respect.
* Adventurous, outgoing, and ready to share new experiences. Love the beach? Music? Travelling? Dog walks? Even better.
* Flexible and adaptable, because plans sometimes change with health, weather, or mood.
* Calm and considerate, able to create space for quiet time when needed.
* Comfortable with mobility support, personal care, transfers, but most importantly, someone who sees beyond the care needs and sees the person.
* Must be available for sleepovers and 3–7 pm shifts.Must be confident driving a 'modified vehicle'. This means being comfortable driving a car that’s been specially adapted so Sarah can get in, out, and travel safely. For example, with wheelchair access, ramps, lifts or other adaptations that make it more than just a regular car. You’ll use this vehicle to take Sarah to appointments, social activities, beach trips, and other outings.
Perks & Salary
* $35–$45 per hour (depending on experience), a competitive rate compared with other disability‑support jobs in Queensland.
* Competitive sleepover rate: paid well above the minimum SCHADS Award sleepover allowance (the SCHADS award currently sets a minimum sleepover allowance of around $60 per night under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award).
* Shifts available for weekends, overnight/sleep‑over shifts, and 3–7 pm shifts, flexible working hours because life isn’t always 9–5.
* Salary‑sacrifice / salary‑packaging available: helping you reduce tax and increase long‑term savings.
* Training, growth & support. You’ll get access to GCCL’s online NGO training portal, covering everything from manual handling and epilepsy care to communication, safe medication management, and more.
* More shifts available to work with other participants.
