Job Description We're looking for a Laboratory Supervisor to join our Mount Thorley team and support the Hunter Valley Business Manager in delivering reliable, high-quality production services to our clients.
In this hands-on leadership role, you will guide and develop the Production team to ensure accurate sampling, timely analysis, and clear reporting that meets client expectations.
What You'll Do Lead and supervise daily laboratory operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
Direct team activities to comply with SGS policies, procedures, and risk management practices.
Manage team rostering, payroll, and leave to align with production requirements.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members to develop technical and personal skills.
Oversee sampling, preparation, analysis, validation, and reporting processes.
Maintain and monitor the quality and compliance system, conducting scheduled and random audits.
Promote continuous improvement by reviewing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing solutions.
Foster strong teamwork and collaboration within the branch and across other Hunter Valley teams.
Build and maintain positive client relationships, ensuring KPIs and turnaround times are consistently met.
Prepare and submit regular reports to management, including production results and financial accruals.
Qualifications To Be Successful You Will Have Minimum 5 years' experience in coal laboratories.
Working knowledge of sampling, preparation, analysis, validation, and reporting.
Understanding of Quality, Compliance, and Training systems.
Certificate IV in Workplace Training or equivalent.
Strong safety awareness and risk management skills.
Competent in administration and reporting tasks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and CCLAS.
Proven ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure.
