A major bank is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with deep expertise in Azure to drive the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cloud platforms.
Role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne
In this role, you'll be the technical point person for cloud operations and reliability engineering, guiding architecture decisions, improving observability, and mentoring a team of SREs.
Responsibilities:
* Own and optimize the reliability, availability, and performance of Azure-hosted production systems.
* Lead the design and implementation of scalable infrastructure using Azure services (AKS, App Service, Functions, Networking, Storage, SQL/NoSQL, etc.).
* Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM).
* Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
* Drive incident management, root-cause analysis, and post-mortem processes.
* Champion SRE best practices including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and automation-first operations.
* Improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and distributed tracing with tools like Azure Monitor, App Insights, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar.
* Collaborate with security, architecture, and development teams to ensure robust and secure cloud environments.
* Mentor and upskill SRE team members; influence engineering culture across the organization.
Key Skills / Experience:
* 6+ years of experience in Site Reliability, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps roles.
* Expert-level knowledge of Azure architecture, services, and cloud-native design.
* Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
* Proven experience running production workloads in containerized environments
* Solid understanding of networking, identity (Azure AD), security best practices, and zero-trust concepts.
* Hands-on experience with monitoring/observability platforms.
