Overview

Arts Queensland is looking for a fixed‐term temporary full‐time Senior Lawyer – Legal to join the Legal Services team, an independent professional legal practice within the Department. The role involves providing independent and objective legal advice and services for the Minister, Director‐General, senior leaders and staff related to a wide range of sensitive and high‐level issues across the Arts portfolio. As Senior Lawyer you will advise on public administration matters affecting the Department, including insurance claims and litigation, conflicts of interest, right to information, complaints and investigations, compliance, as well as Cabinet, legislative and policy matters.

Employment Details

Fixed‐term temporary full‐time Senior Lawyer – Legal (PO5) to commence as soon as possible. The placement will be until Friday, 21 August 2026. This vacancy is due to the incumbent acting in higher duties while another team member is on leave.

About You

The successful candidate will have ability (please review the attached PD on full duties/competencies of the position).

* Provide timely, quality, professional and strategic legal services and advice for the Minister and the Department on a range of matters relating to the Arts portfolio's strategic and operational issues, involving diverse areas of law.
* Draft and review legal documents including contracts, deeds, agreements, as well as Cabinet documents, submissions and correspondence to ensure that related issues impacting on the Arts portfolio are appropriately identified and considered.
* Consult, develop and negotiate solutions to legal, legislative, compliance and complaints issues with internal and external stakeholders and other government agencies under the guidance of the A/Senior Manager – Legal.
* Complete other tasks as requested by A/Senior Manager and A/Director.

Additional Information

* This is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12‐months in total from commencement.
* Salary: $133,603 – $143,126 p.a + super (pro‐rata for part‐time and temporary employment).

* As part of pre‐employment checks, suitable candidates may be required to undertake:
o A criminal history check under section 52 of the Public Sector Act (PSA) 2022.
o Complete a serious discipline history check (if required) under section 71 of the PSA.
o Disclose any interests that may conflict or be perceived to conflict with the discharge of their duties in accordance with Division 2 of the PSA.
