About The Role
This hands‐on role is responsible for planning and executing maintenance across our poultry farms, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of critical equipment and infrastructure. You will manage maintenance schedules, coordinate activities with farm operations, and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on systems such as feeding, watering, ventilation, and egg collection. Working closely with farm, production and maintenance teams, the role focuses on minimising disruption, supporting animal welfare and maintaining compliance with WHS and biosecurity standards. It offers a varied work environment with ongoing training and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, review, and maintain short‐ and long‐term maintenance schedules for poultry farming equipment and infrastructure
* Prepare detailed job plans for preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities across poultry operations
* Coordinate planned maintenance with farm operations to minimise disruption to bird welfare and production
* Forecast maintenance requirements based on equipment usage, environmental conditions, and reliability data
* Maintain and communicate a clear maintenance schedule with relevant stakeholders
* Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on poultry equipment including feeding, watering, ventilation and egg collection systems
* Execute scheduled maintenance in line with the engineering maintenance plan, ensuring accurate documentation
* Utilise the MEX CMMS for work order management, record keeping and parts procurement
* Manage tools, spare parts and materials to support both planned and reactive maintenance activities
* Collaborate with farm and operations teams to align maintenance with production needs and animal welfare standards
* Ensure compliance with engineering standards, biosecurity requirements, WHS regulations and company policies
* Liaise with engineering teams and equipment suppliers to support system upgrades, new installations and modifications
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, efficiency and animal welfare outcomes
* Maintain a safe, clean and organised work environment in line with WHS and biosecurity practices
* Provide guidance and training to farm staff on basic equipment care, safe operation and reporting of maintenance issues
Requirements
* Trade or Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics (required)
* 3–5 years' experience in maintenance or planning within a food processing, poultry or FMCG environment
* Experience with automated conveyors and graders (highly regarded)
* Exposure to reliability or continuous improvement projects is desirable
* Knowledge of HACCP, biosecurity and food safety compliance (advantageous)
* You must not have any birds, pigs or poultry at home and must not regularly come into contact with birds, pigs or poultry in order to work at McLean Farms
