About the Role
Hunter Valley Grammar School seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0 FTE) temporary (12 month) Classroo m Teacher to join our Junior School commencing Term 1 2026, for the 2026 school year. The Classroom Teacher – Junior School is a proactive member within our Junior School and is engaged in providing a stimulating, engaging, evidence-informed and holistic education to K-6 students.
Work Pattern
8:00 am until at least 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday in 2026.
Key Duties
- Teach a K-6 class as Homeroom teacher, including 70 x 30-minute curriculum lessons in the 90-lesson (two-week) cycle and assemblies, roll-call and pastoral time.
- Work as an effective member of the team, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
- Provide an academically challenging, stimulating, and safe environment where students are enthused about learning.
- Attend all assemblies and school functions as determined by the Principal, some of which may be outside normal hours.
- Attend parent/teacher nights, presentation ceremonies and annual school camps (camps may require nights away from home).
- Support colleagues by taking occasional relief lessons.
- Contribute to the co-curricular programme of the School.
- Maintain an active professional development plan and attend required PD sessions and staff meetings.
- Be familiar with and upskill in the learning management and information technology systems used by the School.
- Any other duties as directed.
About You
- Be an all-round professional, dedicated to continuing development and capable of working collaboratively.
- Demonstrate excellence in improving student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
- Demonstrate how teaching practice incorporates a sound evidence-base and inspires young learners.
- Have sound knowledge of the NESA syllabus outcomes for Primary Education and proven skills as a Primary Classroom teacher.
- Understand Guided Inquiry and implement it in the classroom.
- Value a partnership with families to seek the best outcome for each student.
- Understand and be committed to the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching.
- Be accredited with NESA (or be eligible for accreditation) and hold an appropriate tertiary qualification or qualifications.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Experience with the Primary Years’ Program (International Baccalaureate), or extensive knowledge of the PYP, is advantageous but not a barrier to applying for a willing learner.
- Strong ICT skills, including the integration of technology into classroom pedagogy and personal professional tasks.
- Be willing to learn and adapt within a PYP or related context.
