About the Role
The Australian Signals Directorate is looking for highly motivated technical specialists to fulfil vacancies for ASD5 and ASD6 Cyber Security Engineers & Specialists within the Australian Cyber Security Centre's Cyber Security Resilience Division.
As a Cyber Security Specialist, you will be provided with a unique opportunity to undertake challenging and rewarding work that contributes to maintaining Australia's national security.

We are recruiting multiple positions in various teams (see below).

Each role may also require completion of technical testing unique to that role.
Government Uplift:
Responsible for uplifting the cyber security of government through technical assessments, remediation programs, strategies and advice to build cyber security capability across government entities. As a Cyber Security Specialist, you will provide technical assistance to improve the cyber security posture of government entities. Your skills will be used to ensure the team's projects and initiatives make an impact and improve the cyber security resiliency of Government systems.
As part of your role, you may:
* Use red team techniques to assess a variety of technical systems and advise government entities on their current security posture.
* Use blue team knowledge to provide government entities with effective defensive recommendations.
* Use a combination of custom and open-source tools to perform assessments.
* Use software engineering skills to build new tools and improve existing tools.
* Collaborate and discuss security recommendations with stakeholders.
Critical Infrastructure and Operational Technology Environments:
Responsible for enhancing cyber security resilience for critical infrastructure, with a focus on operational technology. As a Cyber Security Specialist you will work in a team of subject matter experts dedicated to delivering Australia's most essential critical infrastructure organisations with a holistic evaluation of their current cyber security maturity, along with tailored advice and assistance to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities.
As part of your role, you may:
* Use red team techniques and knowledge to assess a variety of technical systems and advise critical infrastructure entities on their current security posture.
* Use blue team techniques and knowledge to provide critical infrastructure entities with effective defensive recommendations.
* Use a combination of custom and open-source tools to perform assessments.
* Use software engineering skills to build new tools and improve existing tools.
* Collaborate and discuss security recommendations with stakeholders.
* Present technical findings, supported by senior technical staff, in writing and verbally.
Secure Design and Architecture:
Promotes and encourages cybersecurity best practice through thoughtful design and architecture processes and provides tailored advice on priority ICT projects with a focus on security architecture and threat modelling.
The Secure Design and Architecture Team is seeking a cyber-security specialist. As part of your role, you may:
* Advise on systems security architecture.
* Develop scalable architectural patterns and advice for customers.
* Build and deliver threat modelling advice and workshops.
* Collaborate and discuss cyber security recommendations with stakeholders.
The Secure Design and Architecture Team is seeking a Microsoft 365 Cloud Engineer. As part of your role, you may:
* Design, deploy and verify secure Microsoft cloud and hybrid solutions.
* Draft, review and contribute to written technical advice and/or publications.
* Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including internal technology teams and external clients and partners.
About the Team
ASD is a vital member of Australia's national Intelligence community. ASD's Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has the remit to provide technical advice to whole Australian economy.
ACSC's Cyber Uplift Branch is responsible for strategies, advice and assistance to enhance cyber security resilience and capability across government services and critical infrastructure.
The Branch manages a multi-disciplinary cyber security advisory team, with reach-back into other ACSC sections. It also coordinates proactive planning for ACSC cyber security support to high priority critical infrastructure and government agencies, services and events through a collaborative co-assurance partnership model with the relevant stakeholder. This includes arranging advice and assistance, technical systems and threat intelligence monitoring and pre-prepared crisis communications as appropriate.

* Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, both written and verbal.
* Ability to take direction and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
* A willingness to learn new skills and technologies.
