ME Medical Recruitment - Currently recruiting for a Staff Specialist Haematologist for a Country Victorian Hospital.

The Clinical Operations Division

The Clinical Operations Division encompasses acute, allied health, cancer and mental health services. We provide a wide range of general medical, surgical and specialty services including but not limited to; Oncology, Cardiology, Renal, Emergency, Women's and Children's, Critical Care, Specialist Clinics, Cancer Clinics and Mental Health Services. Our Allied Health teams provide a diverse range of programs and person centred care in inpatient, outpatient, community, home and residential care settings.

Within a state‐of‐the‐art hospital, our Ambulatory and Critical Care, Medical Services, Surgical Services and Women's and Children's areas use the latest technologies to provide excellent care. Our world class Cancer Centre uses a multi‐disciplinary, integrated approach to treat specific cancers. The Cancer Centre offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, specialist nurses, clinical trials and cancer research, palliative care, and a Cancer Wellness Program.

The Mental Health Service provides psychiatric care and treatment across a large catchment area in Victoria stretching from Swan Hill in the north of the state to Gisborne in the south. Family sensitive practice is central to our models of mental health care and best practice ensures the identification, inclusion and support of families, carers and children.

Each year our onsite Specialist Clinics provide over 100,000 service events, we also see more than 60,000 people in our Emergency Department and welcome around 1700 babies into the world. The Clinical Operations Division assists with the admission of more than 50,000 patients into the hospital each year.

Cancer Services

The Oncology Unit is a day‐stay unit providing a wide range of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological response modifiers and symptom support. Patient care is provided by a multi-skilled team consisting of: medical oncologists, palliative care physicians, haematologists, medical oncology registrars and interns, clinical nurse specialists and oncology nurses who are specialists in chemotherapy administration and management and allied health professionals.

The Position

This is a joint appointment between this hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

The position incumbent shall work 4 days per week for the pulic hospital and 1 day per week at Peter Mac. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive haematology care to the region, forming the regional arm of the Peter Mac haematology service. This includes clinical oversight of inpatients, a consultancy service, provision of an outpatient clinics, support of subregional hospitals, and strategic service development.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Provides high quality integrated assessment and care of patients with haematologic conditions
* Participates in the Ward Service roster including on‐call / recall as required
* Participation in clinical trials
* Attends outpatient clinics as rostered
* Participates in initiating and contributing to clinical trials
* Continuously reviews and improves quality processes and protocols
* Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
* Participates in Quality Assurance activities
* Provision of outreach clinics as directed by the strategic plan of the medical oncology cancer services.
* In conjunction with the Oncology Management team, enhance the existing and future service provisions from the cancer centre to the subregional hospitals with a focus on governance.
* A willingness to mentor and provide education to the Haematology Registrar and Junior Medical Staff.
* Assist in the ongoing development of relevant Quality activities; including preparing for and meeting of Accreditation standards and relevant Clinical Indicator Programs.
* Involvement in ongoing development of policies and protocols for the delivery of services within the discipline of Medical Oncology.
* Liaise with the Director of Oncology and management of the Bendigo Health in regard to service development and strategic planning.
Generic Responsibilities
* Code of Conduct - The Victorian Government's Code of Conduct is binding on all Health staff. Contravention of a provision in the code may constitute misconduct and/ or regarded as a breach of the employee's employment agreement and will be dealt with under the organisations Counselling and Disciplinary Action Policy.
* Compliance with policies and procedures - All Health's policies and procedures are set out in its clinical and managerial policy manuals located on the intranet under PROMPT and in hard copy. All staff must ensure they comply with policies, procedures and standard ways of work practices when carrying out their work. Any breach in compliance may result in disciplinary action.
* Occupational Health and Safety - Every staff member has the responsibility to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and the safety of others, to cooperate with Health's OH&S policies and to participate in appropriate safety education and evaluation activities. All staff are expected to participate in reporting any health, safety and wellbeing issues. Any breach in compliance may result in disciplinary action.
* Infection Control - Every staff member has the responsibility to minimise incidents of infection/ cross infection of residents, staff, visitors and the general public. All staff must adhere to the policies and procedures as set out in Health's infection control manuals. Any breach in compliance may result in disciplinary action.
* Confidentiality - All information concerning Health, its patients, clients, residents and staff should remain strictly confidential. Any unauthorised disclosure of such information may result in disciplinary action.

Key Selection Criteria
* Medical Qualifications registrable by AHPRA
* Post graduate qualifications (FRACP) in internal medicine and haematology or equivalent
* Substantial experience in managing and treating patients with a wide range of haematological conditions.
* Experience in conducting clinical research
* Experience in medical education at undergraduate and post graduate levels
* Ability to provide leadership in a multidisciplinary team setting
* Good understanding of the Public Health system; in particular the clinical and quality requirements for oncology service delivery.
* Demonstrably superior interpersonal and negotiation skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as independently.
* Demonstrated ability to participate in audit and in the audit feedback cycle.
* Evidence of on‐going professional development to continually update personal medical knowledge and skills.
