POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the Ciena Learning team, you will lead the development engaging, state-of-the art learning solutions including eLearning, instructor-led courses, and on-demand learning resources for customers, partners, and internal audiences.
We are looking for someone with experience developing and managing technical training projects to join our dynamic and highly skilled instructional development team. Candidates should have with a passion for adult learning and experience crafting technical training. As technical learning content developer, you will work directly with Ciena’s hardware and software engineers to identify learning outcomes and build engaging learning solutions by identifying source data, researching, and collecting available engineering information, and testing procedures for accuracy and validity in the lab. This role is role is a combination of technical subject matter expertise, instructional design, training delivery, and project management.
A technical background in software development, telecommunications networking, or some other technology area that use DevOps practices is a requirement for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In alignment with Ciena’s organizational goals and objectives, design and develop innovative learning solutions that meet audience training needs.
2. Work with technical subject matter experts and eLearning developers to develop eLearning courses, instructor-led courses, instructional materials, and on-demand resources that are effective, engaging, and consistent with best practices in adult education.
3. Create project plans including timelines and deliverables for training development projects.
4. Design role specific learning programs based on needs and audience analysis.
5. Conduct needs assessments and audience analysis to determine instructional objectives and learning outcomes.
6. Explore a variety of sources, obtain, and interpret a range of engineering information including technical notes, drawings, design specifications, and related documents.
7. Analyze new product releases to determine the impact on existing training content and identify new training needs.
8. Review course materials and design documents from other team members, provide feedback and recommendations.
9. Review and validate learning objectives throughout the course development and pilot process.
10. Review and evaluate feedback from students and instructors and take corrective action to improve courses based on feedback.
11. Creation and maintenance of certification tests that measure competencies for products and related technologies.
12. Track and measures the learning effectiveness of courses and learning products.
13. Create storyboards and outlines for eLearning production.
14. Identify, interview, and build relationships with subject matter experts, technical staff, and management to develop training objectives, training collateral, and courseware.
15. Development of materials for ILT and VILT courses.
