An exciting opportunity is currently available for someone with great writing and analytical skills who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a small and supportive team.
This Policy Coordinator role is located within the People and Executive Services (PES) Secretariat, reporting to the Strategic Advisor and directly supporting the Deputy Secretary to coordinate incoming and outgoing work on policies, programs, submissions, and initiatives within PES' areas of accountability.
PES provides direct services centrally and to government schools in relation to legal matters, OHS and employee wellbeing, communications and media, staff performance and conduct, sexual harm response, school operational policy, privacy, and records. PES also provides a strong assurance function that covers school compliance with child safety and minimum standards for registration, workplace safety, a robust internal audit program, and freedom of information, fraud, corruption, investigations, and integrity services, and provides corporate services in human resources, diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability and executive and ministerial services including Cabinet and parliament.
Qualifications
Therefore, this role would suit a person starting out in their career with qualifications or experience in legal, compliance, regulatory, safety, assurance, communications, public administration, or workplace relations, and is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the great work undertaken across all parts of PES, whilst also providing a unique opportunity to see the Department of Education more broadly.
Responsibilities
reviewing and editing briefs, correspondence, Cabinet briefs and submissions, draft emails and advice, presentations and committee papers
monitoring and advising on incoming matters and helping to draft and progress responses and advice
supporting the Deputy Secretary's attendance at internal, stakeholder and interdepartmental meetings by providing and coordinating advice and speaking notes
supporting the planning of the annual all PES staff forum
working with the PES Executive Directors and Directors on their budgets, risks and business plans
assisting to progress tasks to meet deadlines by liaising with colleagues and other stakeholders
maintaining and improving systems and processes to track office workflows to deliver products on time (often within tight timeframes)
supporting and advising staff in PES with how to coordinate and progress work through the Deputy Secretary, Secretary and Ministers.
The role also offers the opportunity to work on priority projects, and there is flexibility to tailor the role to suit particular areas of interest.
